AC Cobra electrifie­d

AC Cars is to produce 58 special ‘Series 1 Electric’ Cobras in celebratio­n of the marque’s 58th anniversar­y.

Its current composite-bodied GM V8powered Cobras will now be joined by an electric variant with a 150-mile range and a 6.7-second 0-60 time. The firm has also launched the ‘140 Charter Edition’, also limited to 58 units, powered by a 2.3-litre four-cylinder Ford Mustang turbo engine.

AC Cars Chief executive, Alan Lubinsky, said: ‘Our long saga reflects the many challenges of making sports cars in low volumes in the modern world.

‘I am convinced that we have given AC a bright future.’
