‘Camel’ Volvo auctioned for a good cause

-

A 1970 Volvo 144 is to cross the block at no reserve later this week, with proceeds going to medical research.

Known as ‘ The Camel’, the Volvo was turned into a rally car in 2010 - and used for the 2012 London to Cape Town rally and the 2013 and 2016 Peking to Paris Motor Challenge.

Historics is auctioning the car this Saturday (18 July). The car’s owner, Charles Cook, a long-term patient of University College of London Hospital’s haematology team, fell ill in March before going on to make a full recovery.

He said: ‘If it wasn’t for the skill and care of the UCLH Haematology team and their ICU colleagues, I simply would not be here today. Whoever buys the Volvo will have the satisfaction of knowing that the whole of the price they pay will go towards UCLH’s cutting-edge haematology research.’ Tom McCooey
