CITROËN H VAN (1947-81)
TOTAL MADE 473,289
Despite being regarded as the archetypal French light commercial, the corrugated bodywork of Citroën’s H Van was inspired by German Junkers aircraft construction!
Flat panel sides were ribbed and braced for strength while maintaining light weight, coupled with a sturdy welded flat and low floor. There was a useful side loading door and six-foot interior height, plus frontwheel drive and independent suspension.
Rear-hinged cab doors were fitted to all bar Dutch market vehicles.
Split windscreens were fitted from 1947 to 64, while later that year the chevron on the grille changed in line with Citroën’s more modern design. There were a number of model variations, but most were designated ‘HY’.
Today they are prized as catering vehicles, often converted to modern Ford Transit mechnicals.
