‘FARINA TRIO UNEARTHED
Collector’s BMC saloons tipped to surprise at auction
Three ‘big’ BMC ‘Farinas models from the same collection are coming up for auction next month.
South Western Vehicle Auctions is to sell a 1967 Austin A110 Super De Luxe and 1965 Wolseley 6/110, both estimated at £8k-9.9k, and a 1967 Vanden Plas Princess 4-litre R (£5750-£6750) in its 30 October sale.
SWVA’S chief executive, Chris Holmes, said: ‘To have three “Grande Farinas” in our sale is something special. They are from a vendor who is reducing his collection. They’re all lovely and the Westminster is the rare super DeLuxe model.
‘These represent the top of the range of their respective marques and are grossly under-valued when compared with the biggest Rovers or a Jaguar 2.4.’
CCW markets editor Richard Barnett said that while BMC’s larger ‘Farinas are relatively undervalued compared to Rovers and Jaguars of the same era, he believes that this trio could still perform well at the sale due to a keen following for these models.
He said: ‘SWVA has a track record when it comes to big ‘Farinas; a restored (but without supporting paperwork) show-winning 1967 Westminster 110 Super DeLuxe made £13,200 under the hammer in its December 2018 sale, a sum that seemingly shocked Poole punters on the day, and its most recent sale saw another 1967 Westminster 110 Super DeLuxe, which came with £9000-worth of bills for re-commissioning in 2015, make an £11,000 hammer price.
‘For anyone wanting a big-hearted, comfortable saloon who doesn’t want to go the Rover or Humber route, one of the SWVA trio could easily fit the bill it’s just a case of deciding which one to bid on.’
