These cars are the beating heart of a classic market that’s vanquished lockdown. Don’t miss our expert advice… and the latest prices

- DAVID SIMISTER EDITOR

It’s been a year like no other. We were prevented from seeing loved ones and enjoying our hobbies the way we normally would when Britain was placed into a national lockdown, and thousands of businesses – including us here at Classic Car

Weekly – closed their office doors and began working from home.

We still don’t know how, when, or, indeed, if the COVID-19 pandemic is going to end, but six months on it’s clear that Britain’s classic car market has been one of the rare success stories. Auctioneers have successfully switched to online-only sales, classic car dealers have adapted and managed to re-open with safety measures, and many shows are slowly getting back on track, albeit with social distancing rules in place.

What’s remarkable is that our collective appetite for older cars remains undiminished – only last week, CCW reported figures collated by classic insurer, Hagerty UK, highlighting that the overall market has actually strengthened over the last three months. The cars featured in the next 18 pages are classics ranging from under a grand in some cases to established favourites costing anywhere up to £30k that really are the beating heart of our hobby. We’ve brought together all the latest advice from the UK’s classic experts, including Fuzz Townshend, Russ Smith and Richard Barnett, to let you know what the hottest buys are right now, and how to get them into your garage. And if you decide that it’s time to buy another classic, we’ve got more than 900 of the latest prices for sub-£30k cars to help you make an informed purchase. Oh, and we’d love to hear about what you’ve bought if you do decide to go out and take the plunge!
