MARKET EDITOR’S CHOICE
Our markets expert has taken a closer look at the 150 classics going under the hammer this week – these are the three that he reckons are going to get the bidders excited.
1992 VAUXHALL CAVALIER GSI 2000 ESTIMATE £18,000-25,000
While the first-generation Mondeo ST200 has seen values buoyed along by the fast Ford phenomenon, the equivalent Vauxhall models have taken more of a back seat. This GSi 2000 is an excellent, one-owner, 27,000 miles-from-new example that is said to be ‘showroom fresh’ and has never been restored. Coming to auction complete with all the books and a spare key, it’s a seldom-seen opportunity.
1968 LANCIA FULVIA 1.3 HF RALLY CAR ESTIMATE £20,000-25,000
The auctioneer says this is just one of a believed eight right-hand drive 1.3 HFs built. Having two previous owners, it is said to have been extensively re-built in around 2000 by Lancia specialist Richard Thorne (at a cost of £24,000), with subsequent further engine and bodywork attention. Formerly FIA-papered, it’s a great way into classic motor sport, or ideal as a fun regular-use classic.
1971 DE TOMASO PANTERA ESTIMATE £65,000-75,000
It’s easy to think of all Panteras as being be-winged and wide-arched but the earliest examples offered clean, simple lines that only latterly were sullied in a bid to keep the Tjaarda-penned model up to date. Silverstone’s very early matchingnumbers example has been owned by the vendor for 10 years and has had a recent brake overhaul, new shock absorbers and springs and a cooling system upgrade, along with a fresh set of correct-specification Michelin XWX tyres.
