We get behind the wheel of Silverstone Auctions’ cars – for sale this weekend!

It’s fair to say that this year has been anything but normal. However, one thing that’s remained undiminished is buyers’ appetite for cars at auction.

Silverstone Auctions in particular has enjoyed sensations results this year, with an impressive sale rate of 89% in May, while July saw Silverstone break its own sale total record, selling 170 cars for a whopping £15.9m.

This weekend (Friday 13 to Saturday 14 November) will see the auction house’s third and final sale of the year, which will again take place online, and scrolling through the catalogue reveals plenty of crackers to be excited about.

Sales manager, Harry Whale explains: ‘The point of this catalogue is that hopefully there’s something for everyone: racing cars, rally cars, collectible lowmileage examples, plus Porsches for everyone – we’ve a lot of those here – and even a motorhome. ‘ What we’re trying to achieve as an auction house for buyers is to offer cars here that are hard to replicate anywhere else, but which also cater for all budgets.’

The four stunners we’ve chosen to investigate here – our picks of the sale – are great illustrations of the ethos that Harry describes. We’ve a pair of ‘ halo’ cars for their manufacturers, backed up by renowned motorsport success: a rare Sixties Bentley with an even rarer coach-built body, and arguably the most popular iteration of what many believe to be the prettiest car in the world. Of course we mean the E-Type, but the E30 and Escort MkI are hardly stodgy lookers either!
