This year’s Silverstone Classic will be two events in one after missing out on last year, with the weekend set to overflow with classic anniversaries and lots of racing
Silverstone Classic 2021
Following a year like no other, which saw the Silverstone Classic postponed, the event is promising to come back bigger than ever, effectively rolling two year’s programmes into one. And it will be overflowing with birthday celebrations, with first among those being the 30th anniversary of the Silverstone Classic itself. A ‘ best of the past 30 years’ theme was planned for last year, which will be carried over into 2021 instead. So too, will be the commemoration of 50 years of the Triumph Stag and Range Rover. A tribute to Alfa Romeo will also be held, last year being the marque’s 110th anniversary, but it is unconfirmed if the single marque race planned for 2020 will return.
A single model race for Jaguar E-types is confirmed however, marking 60 years of the beautiful sports car launched back in 1961. Also celebrating a major birthday is the DeLorean DMC-12, which is 40 this year and will be celebrated with trackside displays.
CEO of Silverstone Classic promoter Goose Live Events, Nick Wigley, says: ‘A double dose of anniversaries at The Classic this summer promises twice the spectacle and a much-needed tonic for all classic car enthusiasts after all the challenges of 2020. We are bringing forward all those great plans we had for The Classic’s 30th birthday party last summer and now adding them to all of 2021’s own anniversaries. It’s going to be an incredible turn-out even by The Classic’s own record-breaking standards… and we all need something to look forward to.’
