A SPORTING LINE-UP FOR CCA
Last ever Lea-Francis joins a fine array of driver-focused classics including this Lamborighini Jalpa at CCA’s next outing, now at a changed venue
What should have been a sale held at the Practical Classics Classic Car and Restoration sale has made a COVID-enforced diversion to Stoneleigh Park.
Despite this there’s clearly as much an appetite to sell as to buy, as the line-up confirms. From modern classics to more traditional cars, CCA has covered many bases. Expect numerous Jaguar and Mercedes-Benz models, with several XJ- S/XJS models and in the ’Benz camp a trio of W108 280SE 3.5s, one being in long-wheelbase form.
The sale also includes the last LeaFrancis to be built. Company owner, Barrie Price, assembled it but work came to a halt in 1990, giving the new owner not only the opportunity to complete a highly interesting part of British motor history but to buy possibly the most interesting modern classic that’s been offered this year. Hot hatches always perform well at CCA and a pair of Golf GTI MkIIs, one being a 1987 eight-valve five-door with ‘impressive service history’, CCA says. They are joined by an appreciably rarer rival, a 1984 Fiat Strada 130TC. Hailing from the same decade there’s plenty of poke courtesy of a 1987 Opel Manta Courtenay Turbo, one of a believedseven built, of which four survive.
If punters crave something more traditional, CCA duly obliges with a 1951 MG TD Midget, a 1967 MG Midget and a 1962 Austin-Healey Sprite. And for those fancying a go at starting a classic ‘man with a van’ business, CCA has a restored 1976 long-wheelbase Ford Transit still running its 2.0-litre V4.
