SENDING OUT AN SOS

The makers of Car SOS are searching for classics for the next series. To give you a flavour of what they’re looking for, Fuzz reveals the ten restos he’s proudest of so far…

- CAR SOS

The producers of National Geographic Channel’s Car SOS are on the look-out for deeply deserving nominations to feature in the next series of their global hit TV show.

This is a fantastic chance for CCW readers to don thinking caps and nominate somebody, along with their much-loved classic car, for the Car SOS treatment. It’s a fabulous way to show someone that they really matter and results in one more great classic being ready for the road.

For those unaware of the show, secrecy is key to the operation; nominees must not know that their car is being shipped off to be restored, which means that an elaborate ruse may be necessary to get the vehicle away from its owner’s clutches.

To qualify, the nominee must have owned the car for at least five years, or have been part of the family or circle of friends which has owned it. The show doesn’t often repeat car types so if the vehicle is similar to one already completed, chances of a successful nomination are slim. However, this doesn’t rule out featuring successive generations of the same model. For example the show has restored Ford Cortina MKI and MKIIIS, but the MKII, MKIV and Cortina 80 remain uncovered.

Nominations must be made directly via the Car SOS email address, with details of the nominee, why they are deserving, condition of the car with the supporting pictures and, crucially, any details that may hamper getting and keeping the car away from the owner for the duration.

Talking personally, it has been a joy working on all of the wonderful vehicles the show has featured thus far, but to give you a flavour of what Car SOS is about, I’m going to select my ten favourites and tell you why I’ve chosen them.
