Richard Barnett explores a new motor sport buying and selling platform
The experts behind some of Britain’s biggest classic vehicle auctions have launched a dedicated site aimed squarely at the historic racing community.
Motorsport Showroom comes from the team behind Silverstone Auctions and Classic Car Auctions. Motorsport Showroom’s director, Harry Whale, feels that there is room for an arena that specifically handles competition car sales.
But as well as bringing buyers and sellers together he’s keen to create a motor sport community through the platform.
He told Classic Car Weekly: ‘Having been involved in motor sport for decades I have kept a close eye on what is and isn’t eective via existing motor sport trading websites. Other people and businesses in the motor sport community agreed that more expertise was required behind the scenes and an improved user experience, hence Motorsport Showroom was born.’
In partnership with Arran Poulton-smith and Claire Westbrook of competition BMW preparer, Amspeed, Motorsport Showroom brings cars, parts, trailers and memorabilia together. ‘Harry said: It was born out of a frustration at the lack of availability and we decided to create this online platform to cover all areas of the motor sport community. We’re looking to add a bit of personality with stories from drivers and marshals, some news and in-car footage as well.’
The site was designed to make searching for appropriate cars as easy as possible and includes an integrated Whatsapp tool to put buyers in touch with sellers. It allows buyers to search for the kind of car (make and model, era or type of competition) and means
