Temptations

Ever wished someone had made a 4wd junior supercar with a midmounted Rover V8? Well, someone did. Meet the Gold Cirrus prototype

-

1988 Gold Cirrus For sale at Classic Car Auctions, April 1, classiccarauctions.co.uk Why buy it? A great might-have-been of specialist British car-making with its mid-mounted Rover V8 and 4WD. The Cirrus even got as far as being tested by Tiff Needell on Top Gear. However, just three were built including this prototype, which I drove five years ago. Price estimate £15,000-£18,000

1954 Lancia Aurelia B20 GT For sale at H&H, March 29, handh.co.uk Why buy it? This is a Series 4 car with the desirable 118bhp engine and even more desirable Nardi floor-shift. In right-hand drive, it comes with extensive history, including twice being owned by noted motoring historian Anthony Pritchard. Recent restoration bills on file total some £39,000. Price estimate £105,000-£125,000

1998 Ferrari 456M GTA For sale at Anglia Car Auctions, April 8, angliacarauctions.co.uk Why buy it? Feeling lucky? This 82,000-miler looks great and has acres of specialist history. However, it is also ‘running lumpy’ and has the common noisy torque tube. So will that bargain basement estimate get you to roll the dice? Price estimate £15,000-£20,000

1961 Volvo P445 pick-up For sale at Brightwells, Bicester, April 5, brightwells. com Why buy it? Not only is it cute, in a moose head kind of way, but this is one of just 165 that emerged from Volvo’s factory. Perhaps surprisingly, three are in the UK. In good, solid condition, could this be the perfect way to collect that flatpack wardrobe from Ikea? On dry days, anyway. Price estimate £8000-£12,000
