CHOOSE YOUR ALVIS SPEED 20

Speed 20 SA launched in late 1931 with lower chassis than Silver Eagle predecesso­r. 2.5-litre straight-six with a four-speed ‘crash’ gearbox. 351 built in various body styles.

Updated SB from October 1933 with independen­t front suspension, all-synchromes­h gearbox and longer wheelbase. 375 are made.

Speed 20 SC from 1935 has engine enlarged to 2762cc to cope with extra weight. Peak power stays at 87bhp but produced at higher revs – 4380rpm – and with more torque. 289 built.

In October 1935 a 102bhp 3.5-litre model joins the range, confusingl­y reverting to the SA name.

Speed 20 SD for 1936 had a slightly wider body. 149 were built. End of the Speed 20 line.

3.5-litre SA renamed Speed 25, 1937-1940.
