Quebecois discoveries
Our regular correspondent Tom Letourneau left his native New England in pursuit of a classic BMW motorcycle combination, but came back only with photos of a eclectic mixture of long-stored classics – and stories of yet more.
‘My friend and fellow Canadian Alfa Club member Alex Csank told me of the BMW rig, for sale with an elderly friend of his. Alex guided us to his friend’s place in hundreds of acres of wilderness.’ It soon became apparent that motorcycles and sidecars were not the man’s only interests – next to the bike was a 1957 Ford Thunderbird, a 1970 Oldsmobile 442 convertible and a 1927 Rolls-royce.
‘Outside under a canvas-covered storage unit was a 1964 Mustang and two 1932-ish Fords,’ continues Tom. ‘In another large Quonset hut was an early Thirties Ford roadster pick-up, a 1947 MG TC, and a ’57 Chevy Bel Air. In another building was a Willys Jeepster actually being worked on. One I really wanted to photograph was a 1979 Mercedes 450 SEL 6.9, but it was crammed in a corner under a cover.’
‘Apparently there’s another building deeper in the woods that has completely collapsed… and the roof is now sitting on approximately 20 Ford Model As and Model Ts.’
