Silverstone does better not being at the NEC

-

Silverstone’s supercar headliners, and Nineties sports saloons on the up

Silverstone Auctions may have had a few flutters of concern when this year’s NEC Classic Motor Show was cancelled and its had to transform its traditional two-day live sale at the event into an online-only affair. But any concerns proved unfounded when this year’s sale rate ended up a squeak away from 80%, which was better than last year’s score at the NEC.

Silverstone has always seemed to possess a talent for sniffing out more interesting Porsches than other auction houses and had a fine line-up here, which did find willing buyers. Like the hardto-miss 911 Carrera 2.7 MFI in the photo below. If you could live with the Magenta paint and Targa top (it was one of only two UK cars in this combination) then it actually looked a good buy at £101,250 when the best of these can hit £145k. Overall, 911s were hotter than they have been all year. Even a fake 911 RS made £67,500.

 ?? ?? Ex-concours 911 looks like a steal at just over £100k

?? ?? This is a very good result but it would have been better if not for the larger than usual number of competition cars offered, which are always hard to sell, as proved to be the case this time.
