Sell my Porsche 914?

What should I sell my Porsche 914/4 for? It’s a 1973 2.0-litre with Bosch MFI, upgraded with Fuchs wheels. It came from California with a rust-free body except for some little areas that I cut out before welding in new metal and giving it a bare-metal repaint in the original Phoenix Red. It has rechromed bumpers, new rubbers, new-old-stock front lights, speedometer, clock, carpets and more. I also have the original invoice from the first owner and bills for parts and service plus a Blaupunkt radio and jack.

Pascal Mathieu

The market for 914s is strong in France, so expect to sell it for between €25,000 to €30,000. Make sure you gather all the history and previous bills and present them in an organised folder. Quentin Willson

Something has to go

I have a 2007 Porsche 987 Boxster S with 64k miles, a 2006 R53 Mini Cooper S with 46k miles and a 2000 BMW Z3 3.0 roadster with 79k. They’re all in excellent condition and I enjoy driving each one, but space is limited and I’m not sure I can justify two convertibles! What is the current market value of the Z3 and is it worth keeping as an investment, more so than the Mini or the Porsche?

Matt Brewer

I’d keep the Porsche and Mini – they have the lowest mileages and are the most desirable. There are a lot of Z3 3.0s on the market now and fuel prices will further pressure values. Be quick and you might get £5k-£6k. Quentin Willson

Sell my broken M5 now?

I have a 2001 facelift BMW M5 E39 which I’ve owned from new. Current mileage is about 143k. The Vanos variable valve timing gave out in 2017 and I’ve been hanging on to it in the hope of either replacing or repairing the engine. I’m now wanting to sell for repair or spares, but it seems too good for that. Would this be a good time?

Richard Dunn

M5s are always desirable so don’t worry about the right time to sell. Repair the original engine, give it a big service, refresh any areas that look shabby and gather all the history in a file. As a one-owner M5, yours is rare, so in shiny condition, running well and with history I’d expect it to sell for around £20k. Selling it for spares or repair will drastically reduce the potential selling price. Quentin Willson
