1.Taking the right fork

Eighteen months after its relaunch, REH Forks is offering assembled fork legs in three lengths, plus mix-andmatch spring rates and internally adjustable pre-load, so that riders can tweak performance further by using different weights of oil. This makes REH Forks’ products extremely adaptable, allowing riders to tailor the fork to their own style as well as to different terrain.

A full range of accessories, called REH Options, is available to customise the fork, including spindles (15mm or 17mm), gaiters, mudguards with brace and clamps, brake anchor plates and protective leg guards.

“We’ve responded to demand by offering three lengths of fork leg,” said the company’s Duncan Macdonald. “Several customers have come back to buy a second or even a third pair of forks, and they are being ridden in Europe, New Zealand and Australia as well as Britain.”

A number of bikes in the Scottish Pre-65 Two-day Classic will be sporting REH Forks, including Duncan’s Ariel: “Feel free to ask questions or have a go on the bike... just not when I’m heading into a section,” he joked.

REH FORK FEATURES: * 35mm diameter stanchions * Sliders machined from 2014A billet aluminium to replicate the original REH castings * Three lengths: 762mm (30in), 787mm (31in), 812mm (32in). 2.On the case

There’s little doubt BSA’S unit single has taken the classic MX world by storm much as it did in the 1960s when Jeff Smith raced his factory machines.

As far as the classic scene is concerned, Joe Maxwell at JME – Joe Maxwell Engineering – has been at the forefront of keeping these unit singles working properly and producing their best. Sadly, even the newest of the BSA B50 bits are getting on for 50 years old and the stresses of racing them mean things can break. Luckily JME has developed brand new replacement crank cases and heads for these iconic bikes and had such bits on the stand they shared with NEB at Telford.

Joe Maxwell told us the crank cases have been cast from brand new patterns, beefed up where needed but still fitting everywhere an original B50 will fit.

Also in our picture is JME’S new four-valve cylinder head sitting on top of one of NEB’S Nikasil coated barrels – available in 500cc and 600cc capacities with pistons to suit the head. A complete engine is ready for testing and once all are happy the first batch of 10 cases and heads will be ready for August. Joe pointed out he’s not done this alone and would like to thank Alan Clews, Mark Hardie and Jonathon Hadson for their help.

3.Husky hop-ups

Down in deepest Devon, Andy Elliot at HVA Factory has been busily addressing some shortages in the world of Husqvarna bits and pieces. Even better, he’s sent us a pic or two of what he’s been making so, as we do, we’ve put them in our products pages.

First up is an outer cover for the two piece clutch cover which is made from aerospace alloy and anodised black, gold or silver. Price incl VAT: £79

Brakes are always handy, and a few of us will know that sickening feeling of stomping on the rear brake pedal and having it break… But that’s no problem for owners of Husky CRS from 1979 to 1984 as HVA has introduced a billet alloy rear motocross brake pedal, with adjustable tip position, to cope with a big boot and frantic braking. Price incl VAT: £109

Enduro events require lights to be fitted to a motorcycle. Problem is, the average enduro is not the best environment for lights to operate in and the poor things have a hard life. Once again, owners of Husqvarnas can breathe a sigh of relief as the HVAfactory has introduced super bright LED rear lights, with number plate illumination and a ‘stop’ facility. So, when you wheel up for scrutineering you can be sure your rear light is going to be fine. Price: To be confirmed

4.Guarded opinion

A million years ago, Mick Andrews debuted a cantilever Yamaha and caused a bit of a stir in the trials world. Said bike quietly disappeared and no more was heard for a good while. The MX lads had a cantilever or monoshock system, but the feet-up brigade stuck to twin shocks. However, then Yamaha thrust the TY250 Mono onto the scene and the world changed.

These Yams were so easy to ride and ‘bomb proof’ that they survived into old age quite happily, even after the world went watercooled. With the introduction of events such as the Kia series – featured last issue – these Yams are being hauled out, fired up and wearing parts out again.

In a trial, it’s things such as mudguards which are vulnerable, and luckily for TY Mono owners Paul Davies at Cambs Trials Centre is on the case.

He’s got three versions of the rear guard – for the Pinky model – and he helpfully offers a discount when buying two. The three versions are a plain guard, one with all decals (stickers to you, bonnie lad) applied and one with decals and the mudflap – which is shown in our picture.

Who: Cambs Trials Centre Price: Plain mudguard: £60 each or two for £100 plus P&P. Mudguard with decals: £70 each or two for £120 plus P&P. Mudguard, decals and rubber flap: £90 each, two for £160 plus P&P Tel: 07770 670696 Email: info@cambstrialscentre.com Web: www.cambstrialscentre.com
