MVS FEATURE IN BIG BONHAMS AUCTION
An amazing array of MV Agustas feature heavily in a Bonhams auction taking place in September. The Robert White Collection is a treasure trove of mechanical rarities including cars and watches, as well as featuring 47 amazing motorcycles. The sale is a showcase of White’s life’s passion, with more than 500 lots set to raise more than £2 million for charity. Bonhams Co-chairman Malcolm Barber said: “The collection is the result of a life’s passion for photography – Robert was the founder of one of the UK’S leading photographic retailers – and his adoration for motorcycles. We are delighted to be able to offer this for sale, and for such a great charitable cause.” It was his love of motorcycles that first connected Robert White with his close friend, American TV host, Jay Leno. The friends bonded over a love of Brough Superior motorcycles, and before Robert passed away in 2015, he sold his Broughs to Leno. The funds from the sale have been used to support the creation of a brand-new cancer treatment centre at Dorset County Hospital and new diagnostic facilities at Poole Hospital. Leno said: “We spent time together in England before he died. He didn’t feel sorry for
himself. He realistically faced up to his position and decided he wanted to give something back to the people in Poole Hospital who had helped him with his illness.” The collection – which is to be auctioned on September 19 at Bonhams in New Bond Street, London – features some amazing motorcycles. A selection includes a low-mileage BMW R90S from 1975, a Ducati 750SS, a brace of Laverdas, some modern BMWS and many MVS. The MVS include a brace of MV 750Ss, an MV 4C, a 750S America and others including a Magni, and three and four cylinder racers.
