What IS Bolas’ secret?

-

I read with interest Paul Mckee’s letter in the July issue of CMM entitled ‘How does Bolas do it?’ and the reply that printed underneath. But the two of them together left me ever more confused. So can anyone there please help an oldie like me resolve a related issue? The bikes I own are a BMW K1200RS, a Suzuki SV650S, a Triumph Bonneville (of the workers’ co-operative type) a BSA A65 and an AJS 350,

and I would love, in the right conditions, (an age thing), to be able to regress fully to my youth and ride all of them. However, the limiting factor is insurance, or more specifically, the cost! No company I can find offers a form of ‘rider’ insurance, and to road register any one of the bikes requires a separate and bike-specific insurance policy. For me, and I suspect others, the cost of multiple insurance policies is the limiting factor that ensures the bikes remain cocooned in the garage, rather than where they belong – on the open road. I would love to keep all of them road-registered and be able to take each one out on a sunny day, but without access to a private road I am at a loss of how to do so. As bikes were made to be ridden, all suggestions are welcome. Pete Richards

Bertie says: “You’re not the only one to ask, so we will ask the man himself to explain how he keeps his fleet going. You may find he doesn’t ride them all, all of the time! We shall also ask an insurance expert.”
