Suzuki GSX-R1100 Slabside

-

In 1983 Suzuki created the RG250, it was the first road bike to come with an alloy frame. They then followed this up in 1984 with the first GSX-R, it was a 400cc home market model. It wasn’t until 1985 that they went global with the concept and gave us the GSX-R750F. Another year rolled by and in 1986 the GSX-R1100G arrived. With a claimed 130bhp at the crank and 197 kilos the bike had the best claimed power-to-weight ratio of the time. The 1052cc motor was a peach, even if the handling was a little wayward. The G model became the H in 1987 (graphics changes.) The GSX-R1100J of 1988 had threeold spoke wheels but they were still the fashioned 18in items. By the end of that year it was all over for the Slabby 1100 with Suzuki going back to the drawing board and bringing out the Slingshot-fed GSX-R1100K, complete with more power courtesy of an 1127cc mill – but more weight: 210kg.
