CL175 Cam-chain answered!

- Richard Pitman

Just to reassure Michael Durrant: his CL175 engine (same as CB175) has a clip link in the cam-chain as standard, as shown in the factory workshop manual. Aftermarket cam-chains are endless, but must be split before fitting, then re-joined with a riveted link. The original clip link doesn’t fit the aftermarket chain. On the 175 engine, the camshaft sprocket is part of the camshaft, and the cam-chain has to be split for disassembly and reassembly, even as part of a full rebuild. The later CB200 engine has a bolt-on camshaft sprocket, and this engine has an endless cam-chain as standard fitting. By unbolting the cam sprocket there is sufficient space to waggle the cam-chain into position, when an endless chain is fitted as part of a full engine rebuild. Hope that helps! Bertie says: “There you go, Michael!”
