Rusty’s 1988 Yamaha DT125R
Here are a couple of pics of my Yamaha DT125R 1988, which I’ve owned since 2004. It was originally a wreck having been rescued from a back garden where it had been rotting for seven years. I did enough to get it road worthy at the time but leapt into a full rebuild this year. I did speak to Sir Stan Stephens early in the year to try and persuade him to do the engine (I’ve never worked seriously on one before, but am experienced in other machinery). If you see him, please apologise for my intrusion, but he did give me the encouragement to do it myself. He is a legend for my age group and my next project is to build a time machine so I can go back and become his apprentice! The bike was white when first sold and the colour change was registered with the DVLA in 1991 (red 1990 only colour with silver frame) so I’m pleased with the result. I’m doing another for a friend so I’ve been truly bitten by the bug!
