Classic Motorcycle Mechanics

NORTH CORNWALL MOTORCYCLES

- Tim Claridge

Tucked away on the North Cornwall Coast in Bude is a dealership which specialises in classic motorcycles from all eras. Who else could sell a 1929 Alcyon 125 and also a 3000 mile old 1989 registered Benelli 900/6 which was as-new? North Cornwall Motorcycles opened in 1978 however it was in 2002 when Steve Jinks (now 52) took the business over that it developed its move into the classic motorcycle world, moving from Stratton to Bude in mid-2017 into a beautifully bright and spacious unit: perfect for displaying some wonderful machines! Steve being a life-long motorcyclist started, like many, on a Yamaha FS1-E in 1982 and has been passionate about all things twowheeled since, ably assisted by salesman Michael Guild and mechanic Lewis Wills, the shop is a treasure trove of classic motorcycles. There is currently a real mix of bikes from 1960s Triumphs and BSA models to a 1977 registered Honda CB750 K6, CB550 K3, Benelli 250/4, a lovely Honda CB1100R, Bimota DB4, a tasty Kenny Roberts 350 YPVS, several 1990s Ducatis along with several 1990s and 2000s Gixxers and a beautiful and fully original Thunderace with under 20k on the clock. NCMC also specialises in service and repair of all motorcycles old and new and is now getting involved in restoration work as well. If you live in the West Country or are down on holiday it is well worth the effort to visit them. You can also get food and drink in the on-site Kickstart café run by Lewis’ partner Louise Bowden. From spring through to autumn they also have a bike night every other Wednesday which attracts an eclectic mix of motorcycles and motorcyclists; this is great as it ensures the shop is involved in the local biking community which makes it a ride out destination as well as a shop, with the added benefit of some of the finest biking roads in the country nearby. I love it. www.ncmc.co.uk
