Classic Motorcycle Mechanics

Some feedback…

What’s with the politics in the magazine? Mentioning Brexit in the ‘Coming Classics’ page! Come on yourself. As to the rest of it, I like most of what you do. The workshop stuff is my favourite part, and rides on older bikes. Allen Millyard’s stuff is astonishing. The worst bit is Mr Cooper’s use of the verb ‘run’ to mean ‘is fitted with’ or ‘came with’. Or is he cutting and pasting? I’m not keen on modern retro bikes, but that’s nothing new. My own GS1000S was featured in 2002 tested against the new GSX1400 by Bob Berry... now even that is verging on qualification as a classic! Interesting story: I owned the GS1000S from 20002004 and sold it on. Last year I got to wondering where it was, after coming back to bikes, and hunted it down via Facebook. The guy I’d sold it to had hardly ridden it, and it had been parked up in his shed for 13 years. Tank rotted through, carbs corroded up, and I STILL had to pay two

and a half times what I sold it for to get it back! Bit more: I own a GS7/11 special that was in the mag in 2001-ish. Chris Pearson tested it and liked it a lot. I also bought that back last year. I’ve sold it twice and bought it back both times. Last time was to a good friend who looked after it and had it for 10 years. I’m currently working on a few mods to reduce its power output, going back to standard cams and carbs. I’m older and wiser now: or just slower? But yeah, I enjoy the mag a lot, better than it was in the 1990s: even the advertising is useful!
