Calling for Kar!

- Nigel Pettitt

Firstly, thanks for putting together such an informative and interesting mag! Dan and I were really chuffed that you printed his letter on page 22 of the November 19 issue. I have been riding bikes now for some

52 years (started with anything we could get going on my dad’s farm) and on the road for 48. I have never lost the bike bug and have owned many steeds. I’m retired now, so I have time to play with my Beta Evo 300 4T trials bike, KTM 350

Enduro, two VFRS and the much under-rated 800cc Honda Crossrunner. The other half refers to my garage as my toy box!

As you will have gathered I am a massive fan of Honda V4s and wondered if Kar Lee could work some magic for an updated V4 from the attached pic of my 1996 bike? We blokes of a certain age don’t need 215 horses to still give a bike some handle, what we do love is a proper-looking bike with grunt and rider-friendly, useful rider aids. A V4800 or 1000cc with nothing expensive or too fancy (as it will go wrong eventually and we would not be able to fix it) would be ideal. In my opinion, there is a gap in the market for a solid allrounder and hope that this letter might inspire some clever stuff from the man with the design hat firmly on his head! As a retired technology teacher I have some experience with CAD and would love to see what could be done with the latest software, and maybe Mr Honda might, just might, build a proper bike for the retro man! Anyway, just a thought. Keep up the brilliant work.

Bertie says: “Nigel, we like the way you’re thinking and will put this forward to Kar.”
