PAUL WEBB’S 1979 HONDA CB250N SUPER DREAM

-

So my story begins. I have ridden bikes now for 36 years, from an FS1-E to a Hayabusa, but with the kids now grown up and all DIY done, I wanted a project for myself. I decided to buy a 1979 250 Super Dream from a well-known internet shopping site. I bought the bike from a guy in Gloucester who had not ridden it since 1996. With tyres flat and the engine seized, he said: “Are you sure this is what you want?” Oh yes, it was just up my street! On my return home the wife asked why I had bought a heap of scrap, and from that moment on I decided that it was my goal to restore it.

I first removed the plug, a teaspoon full of oil and Redex down the barrels and left it for a week whilst away on holiday.

On my return I put the bike into gear and with the plugs out, turned the back wheel and to my delight the engine turned over, putting the oil and Redex up the garage walls.

The next stage for me was to get a battery on the bike, which I did and turned on the ignition... no lights, so I traced it to a faulty connector. With the lights on and the plugs in and caps resting on the barrel I pressed the start. I now had a spark and the engine turned over.

Some of the parts I re-sprayed and some re-chromed, but most of the bike was done with good old wet and dry and lots and lots of elbow grease. I then went on the Internet to source the parts I required and are still readily available. After 10 months of restoration the project was complete and I am now the proud owner of a very collectable 1979 250 Super Dream.
