In the mid 1970stingate planne d to build an improved Konig 500 and Dieter Konig gave him a new motor for it, which ended d up sitting under his bench. By chance, his friend Pete Smith later bought the last items from the closingc factory, including a rear wheel and a dam maged tank. Around 2005Tingate decided to finish the project while keeping it as close e to original specification as practicable. A mouldm was taken off a Kawasaki H1R fairing g, since that was what the Konig 500 use ed, and he repaired the mangled tank an nd made a mould to produce the fibregla ss tank now on the bike. It was the sam e with the seat, and the now late Janeen Newcomben provided some original stickers, , including the spare Kiwi emblems thattin ngate cut out for Kim Newcombe’s use, way b back in 1973. Tingate had made a batch of 10 front brake units and kept one for the projec ct, an original brass radiator was sourced from m Germany and being the great Aussie engineer r he is, Rod made up a set of pipes, chassis and sw wingarm from original drawings.
