Creating a great event
The couple of months since I penned my last column have, to say the least, been pretty packed. I don’t think the Wheeler camper wheels have stopped turning for long since we returned from our extended, and a little damptt. Obviously, as soon as the rain-lashedtt was over, the weather bucked up, and three outstanding events which followed enjoyed great, at times almost too warm weather, which always makes a good outdoor event better. Billed as the Cadwell Park Sidecar Festival – the description really doesn’t do the content of the meeting justice – proved to be a fantastic couple of days at the UK’S best short circuit. Yes, the sidecars, both historic and modern, did themselves proud, as did the line-up of threewheel racing legends. But the solo parades and fiercely-fought Grand Prix Originals races were brilliant. Following that was what has become known as thetattershall Grand Prix at a kart track just a few miles from Cadwell.this too had a great turnout of old, and not so old, racing stars and raised money for charity. And the third show on our travelling circus was the Festival of 1000 Bikes at Mallory Park. How good it was to see this great VMCC event back on track, with a good mix of machinery for all tastes and a handful of real stars from the past. And what made these events possible was the army of willing volunteers who give freely of their time to make enjoyment for others. It’s no wonder the summer passes so quickly. See you at the Classic TT?
