“I’m going to get a phone call!”
Ace and Gene bury the hatchet to write new songs.
Ace Frehley will “just let nature take its course” in response to renewed speculation that he is to rejoin Kiss. And yet the guitarist is quietly confident that such a move could happen, after collaborating again with former bandmate Gene Simmons.
Bassist Simmons has been fiercely critical of Ace’s self-destructive behaviour, although with Frehley’s alcohol and drugs issues long since overcome their friendship is now rekindled. “Within three hours we had written two songs together, which was a record for me and him,” states Ace, who last year hooked up with Kiss singer/guitarist Paul Stanley for a cover of Free’s Fire And Water.
“I can only be honest with you,” Frehley told Eddie Trunk. “[A reunion] is something that I haven’t pushed and it’s something that Paul and Gene haven’t brought up to me, [but] if the fans demand it, it’ll probably get to a point where they’re not gonna be able to say no. Should a promoter call up [Kiss manager] Doc McGhee and say: ‘We’ll give you two hundred million dollars for a six-month tour’, I’m going to get a phone call.” DL
