1968

WALTER SCHREIFELS, Quicksand

“I’m going with the one I’ve been in love with most recently. When

I’m Five is a song I got into with my daughter. It was recorded in 1968 but didn’t come out till the Love You Till Tuesday soundtrack [1984]. It’s a short, beautiful little piece, a very, very cool song. The lyrics reflect David’s interesting take on children: ‘When I’m five I will wash my face me hands all by myself,’ and, ‘When I’m five I will catch a butterfly and eat it and I won’t be sick.’ It’s about a kid who’s four and thinking about what he will do when he reaches his next birthday. I really, really love it.”
