DJ Fontana March 15, 1931 – June 13, 2018

Dominic James Fontana was Elvis Presley’s drummer for a halcyon period of almost 15 years, playing on almost 500 tracks from October 1954 onwards, including Jailhouse Rock, Don’t Be Cruel and Heartbreak Hotel. The 87-year-old had been suffering from complicati­ons following a broken hip.

Neil Jones Died June 8, 2018

At the age of 70, the guitarist with hit 1960s rock band Amen Corner has died of cancer. Welshman Neil Jones scored a string of hits with the band including Bend Me, Shape Me and (If Paradise Is) Half As Nice, before taking up a career as a photograph­er.

Matt ‘Guitar’ Murphy December 29, 1929 – June 15, 2018

Matt ‘Guitar’ Murphy was a noted sideman for Howlin’ Wolf, Memphis Slim, Muddy Waters, James Cotton and more. He also appeared in the Blues Brothers movies, and toured with the act until he suffered a stroke in the early 2000s. He was 88 years old.

Nick Knox March 26, 1953 – June 15, 2018

Nicholas George Stephanoff was better known as Nick Knox, drummer with US psychobill­y band The Cramps from 1977 to 1991, appearing on their best-known albums including Songs The Lord Taught Us and A Date With Elvis. Cause of death has yet to be revealed. He was 65 years old.

Ralph Santolla December 8, 1966 – June 6, 2018

Florida-born guitarist Ralph Santolla worked within different spheres of rock music: with the melodic hard rock acts Eyewitness and Millenium (sic), as part of the backing band of Sebastian Bach and in heavier territory with Death, Deicide, Iced Earth and Obituary. The 51-year-old died after suffering a heart attack.

Alan Longmuir June 20, 1948 – July 2, 2018

The former bass player with the Bay City Rollers has died at the age of 70. Longmuir was a founder of the Edinburgh-based pop group, and left in 1976 due to the pressures of Rollermani­a. He was taken ill while on holiday in Mexico but died at home in Scotland.
