Massive Wagons

The Wagon wheels keep rolling all year.

Lancashire’s three albums Massive of contagious Wagons rowdiness recorded before newly released signing to Full Earache Nelson. Records Singer Baz for their Mills checks in ahead of their upcoming dates.

Despite the band being around for almost a decade, for some readers Back To The

Stack, your tribute single to Rick Parfitt, will have been a first introduction.

I guess that’s true, yeah. We really loved Rick. Quo were such a huge rock band but somehow he always seemed to have one foot in reality along with the rest us.

How did the Earache deal come about? Digby [Pearson, label boss] heard the

Rick single and sent me a message on Instagram. I’m on there, but have no clue how to operate my page. It took ages to download and I almost didn’t bother, but I’m grateful I did [laughs].

Was Full Nelson made any differently from its predecessors?

When Earache came on board we gave ourselves an extra-large kick up the backsides. It was a big opportunity and nobody wanted to fuck it up. We spent longer in the studio than we ever have before.

Compared to your live show that can only be described as ‘in your face’, it’s a rather slick-sounding record.

That’s fair comment. I won’t take it as an insult [laughs].

The Ballad Of Verdun Hayes is about a D-Day veteran who became a skydiver at the age of 101.

I heard him being interviewed on the radio and thought he was fascinating. He did a skydive with his son who’s seventy-six and a grandson who’s in his fifties. For his hundred-and-second birthday he’s doing a mile-long tripwire walk up in Snowdon. Now he can say somebody has written a song about him.

Massive Wagons use Rock ’N’ Roll

Preacher as an intro tape. Can we assume that Slade helped shape your sound? We’re all Slade fans, and Noddy [Holder] was my biggest influence. If there’s a hooligan thing about us, that’s where it comes from. DL

Massive Wagons play U K dates until December 21.
