Astrid Kirchherr

Paul McCartney has paid tribute to the German photographer who took the first ever photo of the then-five-piece Beatles line-up, which included Stuart Sutcliffe, in Hamburg in 1960. She was later engaged to Sutcliffe (who died in 1962). Kirchherr has been credited with encouraging the group to adopt their famed ‘moptop’ look. Macca wrote: “God bless you Astrid, see ya love!”
