SURREY FIELD HOARD IS EVICTED
More than 25 classic cars stored in a field near Redhill, Surrey have been urgently seeking new homes after a November deadline for removal was issued to their owner.
C&SC was alerted to the hoard by Philip Jones of Aston specialist Byron International (01737 244567; www.allastonmartin. com), who told us: “While at my local station I was approached by a cab driver who is aware of my motor trade connections, and he asked if I knew anyone who may be interested in a Jensen C-V8 that was in a field with a few other classics.” When Jones paid the site a visit he was amazed to find a stash of cars that included a brace of the Jensens, four Sunbeam Alpines, three Scimitar GTES, two droptop Volkswagen Beetles and a pair of Triumph Herald convertibles.
“Classic cars have always been a hobby of mine,” said owner and long-term enthusiast David White. “It started with a Sunbeam Harrington Le Mans, which belonged to a local couple. The car had been sitting for 15 years and, when I eventually took a look, I thought I would have a go at it! A Jensen C-V8 followed.”
The vehicles were stored in farm buildings until five years ago, and it is now hoped that the majority can be sold to avoid them heading to the crusher. White plans to restore the Sunbeam Harrington Le Mans and the better of the two C-V8S, which he got to MOT standard in the ’70s, but is hoping to have the field cleared by next month.
“All of the cars are in a poor state,” he informed us. “They are suitable only for parts or full restoration, but I’m open to offers on pretty much everything. Two of the Series IIIA Sunbeam Rapiers would make a good car – I’d happily take £1000 for the pair.”
Other interesting classics include a Ginetta G26, a Hillman Super Minx convertible, an Austin-healey Frogeye Sprite, a couple of MG Midgets, a Morris Minor, a pair of MKIII Escort convertibles and a Robin Hood 2B kit car.
