Allard project up for grabs
Bob Mccutcheon was well known in the Stirling area as a historian and antiquarian bookseller. He was also a car enthusiast with an interest in Jaguars, but in 1974 he bought a ’53 Allard Palm Beach, FES 888. He soon wanted more power, and substituted a Jaguar engine for the original Ford Zephyr unit.
“My late husband was good at taking things apart, then doing nothing,” said his widow Margaret, and both the Ford and Jaguar engines later went missing. “The car was stripped for restoration, all the bits and pieces were boxed and kept safe. The doors and windscreen are in my loft!” The car is now for sale: for contact details, e-mail waremichael29@gmail.com
