BUGATTI EB110
1991-’95: left-hand-drive only
What does the early-’90s EB110 have in common with the Lancia Delta Integrale, BMW Z1, Ferrari 288GTO, Buick Riviera, Citroën SM, Vw-porsche 914, Ford GT, Alfa SZ ES30, Volkswagen XL-1, Fiat Barchetta, Chevrolet Corvette, and various other cars too numerous to list? The answer is that they have all been sold officially in the UK, but in left-hand-drive form only, with the more recent Bugatti Veyron 16.4 and new Chiron continuing this ‘tradition’ for specialist, luxury, high-performance and niche vehicles being imported with the steering wheel on the ‘wrong’ side. Very inconvenient for British car park pay booths and fast food ‘drive through’ outlets! Anorak fact The EB110 was the first Bugatti with left-hand-drive steering. All previous models – from the 1910 Type 13 to the T101 of ’51 – were RHD, largely due to the firm’s motorsport origins (most circuits run clockwise, thus favouring a right-hand driver). The same configuration applied to other marques with a racing pedigree, including most Maserati, Ferrari, Delage, Delahaye, Salmson, Lancia and Hotchkiss models built up to the mid-’50s
