After appearing on TV show A fat camp Sugar Free Farm at the beginning of the year, TV presenter Alison Hammond has lost 2st after beating her battle with sugar, and she admits it’s transformed her life.

At the height of her addiction, the 42-year-old star was eating up to five bars of chocolate a day, and when she tried to cut them out completely, she likened the withdrawal symptoms to “coming off drugs.”

WEIGHT-LOSS STRUGGLE

Alison, who once weighed over 20st and had a gastric band fitted in 2006 (which failed to help her lose weight after her body naturally rejected it by growing scar tissue around it), says: “I’ve had a lifetime addiction to sugar and I went on Sugar Free Farm in the hope it would help me cut it out.

“I did have terrible withdrawal symptoms and I suffered with headaches and dizzy spells because of the lack of sugar.”

The TV star adds: “It has taken me a while to get to this stage and to lose 2st, which I did as result of taking part in the show. I’ve struggled with my weight in the past, but I have learnt to accept that ‘I am what I am.’ I’m not really looking to lose any more weight right now. I feel much better for trying to cut out sugar.

“It’s more about being happy with myself and, if I’m feeling good, then other things will fall into place. I won’t weigh myself now, but I’m sure I’ve kept off the 2st I lost.

“But the main thing is not about losing pounds; it’s about what I’m eating and putting into my body. I’m a big girl. I will always be big, and when I die, my skeleton is going to be big.”

FRIENDLY INSPIRATION

Come Dancing star Lisa recently revealed that she’s lost an impressive 11st in just over a year by impressively cutting out both carbohydrates and alcohol.

Alison says: “Lisa is an inspiration. I spoke to her recently and she is phenomenal. She’s in a happy place and has managed to cut out everything bad. There is nothing bad that she puts inside her mouth whatsoever. She was a role model for me and I watched her on Strictly Come Dancing before I went on the show.”

Alison first came to fame after appearing on the third series of Big Brother in 2002. She famously sat on a table and broke it – and was the second housemate to be evicted from the show.

has appeared on dozens of reality TV shows, including Strictly Come Dancing in 2014.

Away from the small screen, she’s been dating her fiancé, security guard Jamie Savage, for two years after they met online dating. Although they split in January, the star now reveals they are back together.

Alison tells Closer: “We’re back together now and things are going well. We haven’t got a wedding date yet, but everything is going brilliantly and I will wear a big white dress down the aisle one day!”

In her role as This Morning’s celebrity TV presenter, Alison interviews countless celebrities, and she revealed how Jamie does get jealous from time to time.

Alison says: “I’ve interviewed lots of hunks while working on TV over the years and I even proposed to Will.i.am, although I’m not sure he really knew how to take it. I asked Hugh Jackman out on a date, too – he’s gorgeous, but unfortunately he’s married. Jamie does get a bit jealous sometimes, but I just can’t help being a natural flirt.”
