Anxious Posh: “I don’t want to lose Brooklyn”
As she counts down to her eldest son Brooklyn leaving home for university in the US, insiders reveal Victoria Beckham worries how she’ll cope
He wasted no time taking advantage of turning 18 last month – Brooklyn Beckham has been drinking in the pub and had two tattoos inked in a week.
And pals say that, as Brooklyn prepares a move to New York later this year to study photography at university, mum Posh is worried about losing one of her key support figures.
STRONG BOND
The pair regularly attend red-carpet events together, including the Glamour Awards in 2013 and 2015 – where Brooklyn presented her with the Fashion Force award.
More recently, Brooklyn photographed her collection during New York Fashion Week, and even joined her on her Vogue photo shoot in December.
Brooklyn’s also a huge help with his brothers Romeo, 14, and Cruz, 12, as well as sister Harper, five, whom he has frequently been snapped carrying in his arms. The bond between mother and son is clearly strong, with both often posting photos together on social media.
But as Posh, 43, praised her “caring and talented son” on his milestone birthday, Brooklyn spoke of his desire to stand on his own two feet, saying: “It’s exciting to put my work out there and show I’m not just doing it because of who my parents are.”
A source reveals: “Brooklyn is Victoria’s rock. David has to work away a lot and Brooklyn has become more like her best friend, attending events and helping her with the children. They watch TV together, and she confides in him. She’s anxious she’s losing him but knows he needs his independence.”
SEPARATION ANXIETY
The insider adds: “She’s trying her best to be involved by helping him decide where to live but has anxiety about him leaving. She’s a bit annoyed by his tattoos as she feels it’s quite young to start, but she won’t say anything as she doesn’t want to push him away.”
As Brand Beckham continues to thrive, Posh – who last week had their childrens’ names trademarked – sees her fashion empire increasingly take her abroad. Plus David’s commitments to making his Miami MSL football team a success as well as his endorsements, mean they’re pulled in separate directions.
Their 17-year marriage has often been plagued with reports of trouble, beginning in 2016 amid claims they spent most of the year apart. A source says: “Victoria is panicking her brood is growing up so quickly. Soon Cruz will be a teenager and not need her as much. Romeo’s already 14, so it will be just her and Harper. It’s all snowballing.
“Victoria worries she’ll lose her identity as a mum but David tells her it’s ages before they’ll be free of the kids and tries to assure her she’s overreacting.”
