Fur should never be used for fashion

-

I was saddened to read that some high-street shops have unknowingly been selling real fur as fake. An investigation by animal protection charity Humane Society International claims to have found cat fur in several high-street shops,

despite cat and dog fur being banned for use in clothing across the eu since 2009. This is terrible on many different levels. not only is it outrageous, it’s sadly a sign of the times and economic climate where it’s cheaper to sell real fur instead of fake fur. I don’t like the fur trade or how it’s in fashion, whether on ear warmers, bobble hats or keyrings. People wearing full fur used to be the target of people’s horror, but now a little fur seems an acceptable fashion statement. I don’t think it is. I don’t think even fake fur should be used for fashion in case real fur is accidentally used. even synthetic materials used in faux fur are harmful to the environment due to the way they’re made and the waste they create.

As an explorer who visits painfully freezing climates, I have experienced first hand how wearing fur is key to survival, so I did wear fur on the ruff of my coat in Antarctica. That seems a conflict of interest, but that is an example of an extreme situation where synthetic materials don’t keep you warm enough. Fur should never be worn for fashion.
