David’s new film role backfires

While Posh was busy with work commitments, Becks braved the cruel critics with Brooklyn in tow

His muchanticipated acting role in King Arthur: Legend Of The Sword was panned as “wooden” by critics and fans last week. But David Beckham, 42, appeared to shrug off the criticism as he was joined by eldest son Brooklyn at the film’s star-studded premiere in London.

One fan Tweeted his opinion, slamming Becks’ performance in the film, directed by his good pal Guy Ritchie, as: “The worst piece of acting I have had the misfortune to witness.”

It’s been a bumpy year so far for the former England star. He lost the public’s affection after an email hack in February led to reports that he was using charity work as a campaign to get a knighthood, and that he threw a foul-tempered tantrum when it didn’t happen.

TAKING ADVICE

Although David, who also appeared in Ritchie’s 2015 film The Man From UNCLE, confessed he was “nervous” about how his latest venture would be perceived, the former footballer admitted that acting is not a new career option for him.

On collaborating with pal Guy, David said: “I haven’t taken a step into acting, this is just doing something with someone I love as a friend and a director.”

Since retiring from football in 2013, David has built up a multi-million pound fortune as the face of global brands such as Calvin Klein and H&M.

LOOKING DAPPER

He also looked dapper at last week’s premiere – a very different look to one he shared on Instagram while filming with special effects make-up, yellowed teeth and a broken nose. Sporting longer locks and noticeably darker hair on set, David sparked speculation that he may have dyed it for the film.

As the night drew to a close, David’s plus one Brooklyn, 18, and his best pal Rocco Ritchie, 17 – the son of director Guy and Madonna – decided to carry on celebrating at the after party in Shoreditch, while David chose to go back to the hotel early.

His wife Posh, 43, couldn’t make Becks’ big night because she was in New York to work with cosmetics company Estée Lauder, but she Tweeted how “proud” she was of her husband’s latest project.
