…TOLD SOMEONE I LOVE Them

I told my dad on St Patrick’s Day [in March] and I don’t think I’d ever told him before. It was a: “You know what? I f**king love you man, you’re a legend,” and he was like: “Wow! Maybe I should say I love you too a bit more often!” It wasn’t the last time, but it was the most memorable recently. I tell my wife, Sheena, and our kids [Billie Rae, eight, and Marley Mae, four] that I love them every day.

...CRIED

Marley Mae is such a sensitive little girl. She wells up at everything and if I see her about to cry, then it sets me off. I cry at movies if I’m watching something about a child-parent relationship. I get so emotional. I never really used to care about stuff like that.

...MADE A BIG LIFE CHANGE

I’m constantly changing – and it’s mostly to do with decisions around fitness training and alcohol. I woke up recently and went: “Right, no more partying or alcohol,” so I’m on a big fitness thing right now. I’ll probably switch back into partying and alcohol in about two months’ time!

...LIED

I probably tell white lies every day but that’s only for fun and telling stories and jokes. But an actual full- blown “I need to lie to get out of this”? It’s been a long time.

...WAS GENUINELY SURPRISED

I don’t get surprised easily. If there’s a big shock moment, I revert to the opposite so I’m less excitable and go very calm. In the new show [Supercar Megabuild on National Geographic channel] there’s a moment where I’m upstairs on my phone and one of the cars explodes on fire and the whole place kicks off, but I casually walk outside and stay on my phone, not reacting to all the crazy stuff going on around me.

...HURT SOMEONE’S FEELINGS

I did enough of that many years ago when I was a bit more evil and less sensitive to the world. Now I’m a more apologetic kind of guy and I hate to think that I’d ever upset anyone. Even in a road rage situation! Just drive in front of me, I’m not going to beep my horn, everything is cool.
