Inside the Love Island stars’ desperation
Contestants have totally transformed their looks with cosmetic enhancements Expert fears they risk addiction to surgery Psychologist warns having sex on TV is a dangerous route to fame
The hugely popular and controversial reality show Love Island is making headlines again with a batch of sexy singletons entering the villa looking for love.
The show, which is pulling in 1.5 million viewers, came under fire last year over explicit sexual content, with couples having sex in a room shared with their co-stars – and contestant Zara Holland even losing her Miss Great Britain beauty crown over her raunchy antics.
And this year’s new cast has already descended into racy romance and blazing rows. Last week saw the first major fight kick off after Olivia Attwood, 26, ended things with Sam Gowland, 21, and then launched into a blazing row with Montana Brown, also 21.
Later on in the same episode, viewers were left shocked when Jess Shears, 23, and Dom Lever, 26, became the first couple to have sex in the house, getting hot and steamy under the covers in the villa’s hideaway
And they weren’t the only ones, as Amber Davies, 20, and Kem Cetinay, 21, also enjoyed themselves between the sheets.
SEX ON TV
Closer psychologist Emma Kenny explains their raunchy behaviour is one way contestants can grab headlines and pull in ratings. She says: “In terms of sex on TV, it’s gone from a shocking taboo to something so normalised; these young reality hopefuls think nothing of having sex with cameras watching them.
“They know that being bigger and bolder than ever will lead to a better pay- off. Last year’s Love Island contestants are now stars in their own right. If these people play the game right, they’ll reap the rewards.”
It’s not just their actions in the villa that have caused a stir. Old photos of some cast members have surfaced showing how dramatically they have altered their appearances. Chloe Crowhurst, 22 – who’s admitted to having a nose job, boob job and lip fillers – looks barely recognisable in her throwback snaps.
Surgeon Mark Ho-asjoe tells Closer: “She’s definitely changed her face. I think she could have had her jaw reduced, as the distance between the bottom lip and chin looks smaller.”
Glamour girl Jess has admitted to having a boob job but photos from her early modelling days are shockingly different. Mark says: “She’s had her lips done. She could have also potentially had her nose job and fillers in her cheeks to give her more definition.”
Meanwhile, student TyneLexy Clarson, 20, hasn’t admitted to any surgery, but surgeon Alex Karisi says: “I would say it’s very likely she’s had a boob job. She’s a slim girl so it’s easier to see the roundness of an implant.”
SURGERY ADDICTION
Mark also warns that having so many procedures so young warps these women’s perspective of their looks.
He says: “When girls in their 20s start having surgery they lose perspective of how they looked initially
and only compare themselves to the last time they had work done. So they keep wanting to alter their appearance and run the risk of getting addicted.”
Emma Kenny adds: “Most reality stars undergo cosmetic enhancements after they’ve found fame, but these girls have had surgery before their TV debut, as if they’re prepping themselves for the limelight.
“But people are in competition for screen time and because of that, they could end up doing something they regret.”
