‘KYLIE’S CREATED A GENERATION OF REALITY STARS WHO WANT TO LOOK LIKE CARTOONS'

Top surgeon Dan Marsh warns that the quest to copy Kylie Jenner has created a generation of lookalikes… with dangerous consequences

She once admitted S that she’d suffered intense bullying over her looks throughout her life – but Kylie Jenner is now arguably the Kardashian sister that everyone wants to emulate.

So much so that when she admitted to having lip fillers in 2015 – when she was just 17 – The Apprentice winner Dr Leah Totton’s clinic saw a 70 per cent rise in requests for the procedure in just 24 hours.

And surgeon Dan Marsh from The Plastic Surgery Group tells Closer that young girls and reality stars don’t just want to appear similar to Kylie, they want her exact face. He says: “I have young girls asking for the Kylie Jenner look all the time. They want the overfilled lips, the cheek fillers that create the impossibly high cheekbones and Botox. She’s created a trend. Young girls see Kylie as a definition of beauty, but it’s not a natural look. Young girls don’t want to be natural any more.

“Social media pressures to look like Kylie Jenner risk ruining young girls faces.” And Dan notes that a wave of British reality stars have also fallen victim to the same uniform appearance.

He says: “Seeing photos of reality stars like Amy Childs and Charlotte Crosby, it’s like a copy and paste of the same image. Most have lip fillers, facial fillers and Botox. They all look the same. Some of them had some subtle work done before Kylie started meddling with her lips, but they’re clearly trying to emulate her now. She’s created a generation of women who want to look like cartoons.

“Lots of these reality stars get a bit of work done, but then they lose touch with what’s normal and keep wanting to top it up and this is where the obsession begins. They lose perspective and keep going bigger and bigger and risk destroying their faces.”

A month before Kylie finally admitted to having lip fillers – in April 2015 – a dangerous lip trend launched on social media where people desperately tried to imitate her pout. Using the hashtag #Kyliejennerchallenge people would post pictures and videos of them sucking their lips

into a shot glass or top of a drinks bottle so that when they pulled away, their lips would be left swollen and plumped up. After doing the challenge, some people complained of heavy bruising, bleeding and painful swelling.

And Dan warns of the dangers of lip fillers, adding: “These massive full lips can cause cysts that need to be dissolved and the fillers can become lumpy. If the fillers are badly injected, they can go into an artery and the patient can lose feeling in their face. Their lips could even turn black.”
