‘I felt my most feminine after I’d given birth’
Jocelyn Cook, 35, from kent is married to James, 36. they’re parents to 16-month-old megan. she says: “I can completely understand what Serena is saying. When I became a mum last year, I felt fulfilled and settled. And I’d never felt more womanly, either – it sounds cheesy, but it’s true.
“I always knew I’d be a mum and, when I met James, he was just as keen to start a family as I was. I was lucky I fell pregnant fairly easily. I was prepared for my body to change, but I had no idea quite how amazing I’d feel. As my bump grew I was in love with my curves and how my body was changing shape. I felt great.
“After I’d given birth to Megan, I was stunned at how amazing the female body is – what it goes through and can produce. Giving birth is an experience like no other, it’s what women were born to do. I felt strong and powerful and, when I was breastfeeding, I’d never felt more womanly, content or complete.
“I don’t think Serena’s comments were insensitive and there’s certainly no need for people to be offended by what she said. She’s obviously just very excited for her next step in life – and why shouldn’t she be? She’s a powerful sportswoman who has achieved so much already.
“Giving birth will be an experience like she’s never felt before. It leaves you feeling euphoric and like you can achieve anything – and the most feminine that you’ve ever felt.”
