Coleen: “We’ll get through Wayne’s arrest together”
Despite anger over footballer husband Wayne’s drink-driving shame last week, pregnant Coleen Rooney is determined to stand by him
They’re never far from drama, with Wayne Rooney’s gambling habit making headlines in May after he blew £500,000 in a casino, and Coleen blasting online trolls who criticised her weight gain before she’d announced her pregnancy last month. And the couple had to weather another storm last week when Wayne was arrested and later charged with drink-driving.
It’s believed the footballer – who’s due to appear in court on 18 September – had been out with pals at a bar five miles from the £6m mansion he shares with Coleen and their children, Kai, seven, Klay, four, and Kit, one, before he was pulled over by police. Reports later emerged that he was driving a 29-year-old office worker home in her car.
Sources say it’s caused embarrassment and upset for the family when Coleen is trying to stay stress-free. A source says: “Coleen is humiliated by Wayne’s arrest and was embarrassed that he was in a car with another woman. They’ve had a great summer together on holidays, enjoying her pregnancy and getting their relationship back on track. Now this has come along and shaken things up again. But she’s vowed they can get through this together.”
UPSET AND ANGRY
Coleen has previously spoken about Wayne’s behaviour – he was forced to publicly apologise after having sex with a prostitute when Coleen was pregnant with Kai – saying she’s been “upset and angry” by his antics over the years. She added: “I think, ‘Why do it?’ Because you know it’s going to blow up. It’s part of growing up in the public eye.”
Coleen – who showed off her baby bump in Mallorca last week – confirmed her pregnancy on Twitter in August, shortly before Wayne, 31, announced his retirement from international football. The couple’s baby news came after a difficult year, with rumours they would be moving to China if Wayne joined a club there. But this summer he returned to his boyhood team Everton when his contract ended at Manchester United.
A TOUGH PATCH
A source says: “Wayne’s been through the wringer between having to make the decision about China, Everton and playing for England. It’s been a crazy year and Coleen knows it’s been a tough patch for him, but she believes this baby is the fresh start they need. She’s hoping the pregnancy will bring them closer and help ease Wayne into this new chapter in his career.”
The couple will celebrate their 10th wedding anniversary next June, and pals say Coleen is thrilled another baby Rooney will be joining the celebrations.
A source says: “Her friends think she’s brave having another baby so soon after Kit. But with their 10th anniversary coming up, she feels it will make their family complete.”
