He sparked outrage H after posing with a pistol for a photo shoot earlier this month, with angry fans slamming Brooklyn Beckham for glamorising gun violence.

One critic who responded to the snaps that Brooklyn, 18, posted – and later deleted – on his Instagram page wrote: “Look up Gun Violence Survivors Foundation. You should go and talk to a few of them. Maybe posing with a gun would not seem so cool.”

Now pals say his mum, Victoria Beckham, 43, has been struggling with the backlash her eldest son has received.

A source says: “Having her own child come under such criticism has been upsetting for her. They’re incredibly close and it hurts her that she can’t protect him from all the negativity.”

Brooklyn – who is rumoured to be back with his ex, actress Chloë Moretz, 20 – was slated for his “terrible” photography book. And despite Posh – who was cruelly mocked on Twitter last week for her This Morning beauty tutorial – wanting to jump to his defence, pals say David, 42, has urged the designer to let Brooklyn deal with it.

The source says: “David’s urged Vic to keep calm. He understands where she’s coming from but says it’s all part of the learning curve and he’s able to fight his own battles. Vic worries he’s too young to deal with the onslaught and given he’s in the spotlight because of them, she can’t help but feel anxious.”
