Coleen tells Wayne: “I won’t be reminded of your broken promises”
As Wayne Rooney hopes to renew their wedding vows, insiders say pregnant wife Coleen is finding it difficult to move forward
She was pictured S out again last week without her wedding rings and, despite their 15-year relationship being rocked by several scandals in the past, this is the longest Coleen Rooney has kept them off.
The pregnant mum-of-three was devastated when Wayne, 31, was convicted of drinkdriving last month while taking single mum Laura Simpson, 29, home from the bar they’d met in. And despite Wayne being adamant that nothing happened between them, Laura claimed she’d enjoyed “kissing and cuddling” the footballer, though she later denied this.
Now friends of Coleen, 31 – who announced in August that she was “so happy” to be pregnant with the pair’s fourth child – say she’s refusing to wear her diamond-encrusted bands – her £250k wedding ring and a £200k engagement ring – as they’re a constant reminder of the vows Wayne has broken.
HUMILIATED
A source says, “Wayne has strayed in the past and it’s been humiliating for Coleen. For her, the rings represent the vows that Wayne made to her, and she thinks it’s a joke to wear them now as they seem meaningless. She feels like they’re tainted by his scandals, and feels a fool every time she looks at them. She won’t be reminded of his broken promises.”
Wayne – who started his 100 hours community service at a garden centre last week – is believed to be planning to propose again with a new ring and hopes to “wipe the slate clean.” Coleen had previously said it was unlikely they would renew their vows in June to mark their tenth wedding anniversary, but now friends are saying Wayne wants to hold a private ceremony to make it up to her.
The pair – who are parents to Kai, seven, Klay, four, and 20-month-old Kit – have had a roller-coaster relationship since they started dating as teenagers. In 2004, she was left mortified by Wayne’s admission that he’d slept with a 48-year-old grandmother in a brothel two years previously. He also publicly apologised after it emerged he had threesomes with prostitutes Helen Wood and Jenny Thompson in 2009 while Coleen was pregnant with Kai.
AVOIDING EACH OTHER
A source says, “Coleen loves Wayne but isn’t ready to forgive him yet. They’re avoiding each other in the house and her friends are encouraging her to go away for a while to get some distance, but she doesn’t want to disrupt the boys’ routines.
“She wants drastic changes before she’d even consider them discussing their future. She wants him to quit gambling and drinking, and cut out the friends she thinks are a bad influence. She says they have a long way to go before they can talk about moving forward.”
