Michelle: “The lads are amazing – we get really close”

Actress Michelle Keegan opens up about her close friendship with her male Our Girl co-stars and how she manages to keep husband Mark Wright in check on social media

The latest series of Our Girl T started last week, where Michelle Keegan returned to the screen following a gruelling seven-month film schedule that took her all over the world.

Speaking last week, Michelle, 30 – who was pictured looking close to co-star and on-screen love interest Luke Pasqualino last year – said life on set was made easier by her male co-stars.

In the interview, Michelle said, “Working with the lads, they’re amazing and they become like your family at the end of the day. You get really close to everyone.”

TIME APART

In April this year, Michelle’s hectic workload saw her leave the Essex home she shares with husband Mark Wright to film in Nepal, South Africa and Malaysia. The pair soon saw their schedules keeping them apart for weeks at a time, with Mark, 30, relocating to LA in August for his role as a reporter on US show Extra.

But Michelle admits that while the distance can be hard, the pair make it work, saying, “A lot of people have come to see me [during filming]. Mark’s been out, my mum’s been out. It’s hard for me – I’m a home bird, I like my home comforts.”

But she admits that despite the long distance, she doesn’t feel the need to glam up for Mark when she sees him, and wasn’t annoyed when he recently posted a screenshot to social media of them Facetiming.

She said, “I saw that, and I thought, ‘Oh, my God.’ He put an all right picture on or I would’ve gone mad.

“When you’ve been with someone five years, it doesn’t really matter, does it? I have spot cream all over my face.”

Last week, Mark praised his wife’s incredible body after she showcased her toned physique in a revealing shoot, gushing, “She looked very, very hot. I can’t wait for her to get to LA.”

But Michelle admits she’s not as fit as she wants to be and finds it hard to watch her diet.

NO PLACE LIKE HOME

She says, “I try to be good. I’m not the best, but I try to be. I wouldn’t pass the army running test. I eat what I want, though, which is great for me because I love food. To be fair, my favourite snack is quite healthy – rice cakes with avocado and houmous.”

And while she took in some incredible sights while playing Lance Corporal Georgie Lane in the BBC drama, the former Corrie star says she couldn’t wait to get back to her quiet life in Essex.

She says, “[When I got back from filming] my mum picked me up from the airport with the dog – and I went home, had a cup of tea, sat on the couch, caught up on TV and had biscuits. I love slippers and bed socks – Mark’s a ‘feet out of the duvet’ guy and I’m a ‘feet in.’ Maybe it’s a man/woman thing. I love being home.”
