Katherine Ryan: “I bonded with Kourtney Kardashian over parenting!”
The TV comedian opens up about her celeb pals and getting revenge on her exes
She shot to fame thanks to S her sharp wit, becoming a familiar face on TV panel shows and the stand-up circuit. But comedian Katherine Ryan is now rubbing shoulders with reality TV’S most famous family, and says they’re the only people who’ll escape being the butt of her jokes.
Single mum Katherine – who has an eight-year-old daughter, Violet – tells Closer she met Kourtney Kardashian, 38, at a dinner party earlier this year and the pair bonded over their parenting styles.
COSYING UP TO THE A-LIST
“I’d been drinking,” she says, “which probably explains my confidence in going over to talk to her. I just gushed about how she was an attachment parent [using continuous physical closeness] and I’d done the same with my daughter, and how I love her lifestyle app. She was really lovely, and is definitely the most beautiful Kardashian.
“I won’t say a bad word about that family. In today’s scary world, I like that they don’t hurt people and they pay their taxes.”
Canadian-born Katherine, 34, has become one of the UK’S biggest female comedians since moving here in 2008, and is currently on our screens alongside Jimmy Carr on Your Face Or Mine. But the star attributes part of her success to a very tight-knit group of funny ladies.
HAVING THE LAST LAUGH
Katherine says, “I have a Whatsapp group with about 50 female comics, and I love that there’s no competitiveness between us. I was so starstruck when I met Dawn French – I tried to act cool and not beg for advice.”
She also gets a lot of her material from her ex-boyfriends, such as one she dumped for cheating on her with a glamour model. “I try to keep identities concealed,” she adds, “but it gives them a reason not to cross me.”
