CAPRICE: ‘Surrogacy is still taboo’

-

After a miscarriage A and three agonising failed attempts at IVF, former lingerie model Caprice, 46, and her partner Ty Comfort also decided to go down the surrogacy route.

Amazingly, one month after their surrogate fell pregnant with their child, so did Caprice! She conceived her second son entirely naturally – something doctors had warned her was very unlikely.

Speaking about the experience in her book Caprice – My Boys, My Body, My Business, published in 2015, she revealed she went to America to find a 32-year-old mum-of-four to be her surrogate.

She said, “Surrogacy is still taboo. It’s not traditional and there are not a lot of women who have gone down my road. I was scared people were going to ridicule me, and even more so, I was scared for my children… The support I got was overwhelming.”

Retelling the story of her son’s birth in 2013, she said, “There I was with my mom, my sister and Ty and my carrier’s husband in the theatre, and she was having my first child while I was eight months pregnant. I was holding my carrier’s hand and the second my son came out, I cut the umbilical cord and stripped off all my clothes and he stopped crying the second he touched my skin – and that was my bond. That moment was unbelievable, it was one of the best moments of my life.”

Now, she and Ty are proud parents to four-year-old boys Jett and Jax. She won’t reveal which one was carried by the surrogate, but she remains close to her. In 2014, she told Closer, “I send her pictures of the boys and we talk regularly – we call her ‘auntie.’”
